Supporting the Next Generation of Chromophobe RCC Researchers
Chromophobe Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) can be difficult to study due to its rarity, with only a handful of laboratories nationwide dedicated to studying it. That's why supporting early-career researchers and their findings is crucial for advancing our understanding and treatment of chRCC.
Our Giving Tuesday Initiative (now through Dec 3rd)
For our Giving Tuesday Fundraiser this year, we're proud to be fundraising toward our collaboration with the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) - the world's largest cancer research organization, to establish a Scholar-in-Training Award (SITA) specifically designated for chromophobe RCC. This effort is to ensure there are opportunities for chRCC researchers to apply for SITA awards without having to compete against the more common subtypes of kidney cancer. This initiative will enable promising researchers to share their chRCC findings at AACR's 2025 annual meeting. We will be running a fundraiser from now through Giving Tuesday, on December 3rd, to support this initiative.
Impact
We initially planned to support one researcher with this award this year. However, after our recent visit to the Henske Lab at Brigham and Women's Hospital, which highlighted new chRCC data we felt was important to be shared as well, we expanded our program to potentially support up to three scholars, depending on funding and applications. While all awards will go through a review process and be selected based on merit by the AACR, we wanted to ensure several slots were available for these promising chRCC researchers and future leaders in oncology.
Any excess funds raised will support future SITA awards or provide travel stipends for other scientific conferences to ensure those studying chRCC are set up with a network of support.
